Female Grey Squirrel. Mating and reproduction eastern gray squirrels are known to breed twice a year. Eastern gray squirrel drey normally, one to four young are born in each litter, but the largest possible litter size is eight.
Although usually frightened of people, a mother squirrel can be quite aggressive if she perceives danger or is separated from her babies.
Eastern gray squirrels can grow to 20 inches long and weigh 1.5 pounds. These scents and sounds attract male squirrels and alert them that a female is fertile. One season starts from december to february, and the second is sometime around may to late june. Females can have litters twice a year, each usually consisting of two to four babies.
